Metalysis, the end-to-end manufacturer of solid-state metal and alloy powders and global leader in materials science, will welcome the Rt. Hon John Healey MP, Secretary of State for Defence, to its manufacturing centre in Wath upon Dearne on November 22nd, The visit marks a continued show of support for the local business from the constituency’s local MP.
John Healey MP, whose constituency of Rawmarsh and Conisbrough includes Wath upon Dearne, has long championed local businesses, particularly those with a strategic role in the UK’s critical metals sector. Metalysis, a key player in this field, offers a groundbreaking product range of metallic and intermetallic powders and alloys, including lightweight refractory high-entropy alloys that were previously impossible to produce using traditional manufacturing methods.
During his visit, Mr Healey will tour the Metalysis manufacturing facility, which features commercial and industrial units – two Gen 3 units which can produce tonnes of output per machine per annum – and the newly commissioned Gen 4 which is capable of producing tens of tonnes of output per machine per annum. Each machine replicates the patented Metalysis FFC Cambridge electrolysis process which when compared to traditional melting processes gives energy efficiencies, yield efficiencies and can deliver bespoke and advanced customer-required attributes to each of the materials processed. The Metalysis Manufacturing Centre delivers high outputs of material – whilst the Metalysis Discovery Centre – located at the Advanced Manufacturing Park at Catcliffe – hosts the Gen 1 and Gen 2 R&D units – where all client product journeys commence – with the Gen 1 producing grams of output per machine per experiment and the Gen 2 producing kilograms of output per machine per run.
The company’s commercial focus is upon critical materials – high charge capacitor grade tantalum powders, and scandium alloys – scandium tri-aluminide (Al3Sc), for the electronics sector, and lightweight refractory based high entropy alloys, for applications in demanding environments.
