Composites technology leader, Cygnet Texkimp, announces their latest victory in the CAMX Awards for Unsurpassed Innovation, securing recognition for their revolutionary Multi Roll Stack prepreg and towpreg manufacturing machine. The award acknowledges their exceptional commitment to innovation in the composites industry.

The Multi Roll Stack represents a groundbreaking, energy-efficient prepreg processing solution designed with sustainability and cost-effectiveness in mind. This technology was developed as part of the UK’s ASCEND collaboration, aimed at enhancing technical and supply chain capabilities to produce high-grade, composites-intensive components for high-volume markets such as mainstream automotive, higher-volume aerospace, and the hydrogen storage vessel market.

Engineered by Cygnet Texkimp’s team of prepreg technology specialists, the Multi Roll Stack offers a lower-cost alternative in terms of capital investment, operational expenses, and energy requirements when compared to traditional prepreg processing methods.

Luke Vardy, CEO of Cygnet Texkimp, expressed his delight at being shortlisted for the prestigious CAMX Awards, emphasising the pivotal role of innovation in their offerings to the composites market; “The Multi Roll Stack exemplifies our commitment to developing technologies that enhance the processing of composite materials and components. It was our belief that there was room for significant innovation in prepreg manufacture, aligning with established process principles while simultaneously providing the industry with reductions in machinery footprint, energy consumption, and costs.”

Vardy continued, “The solution has been proven to produce lightweight prepregs at speeds higher than conventional methods, enabling accelerated part production. This not only paves the way for the broader use of high-quality prepreg materials and components in the manufacturing of lightweight, energy-efficient, and sustainable vehicles and aircraft but also holds the potential to play a vital role in the advancement of Type V CFRP hydrogen storage vessels and the broader efforts to expedite hydrogen technology implementation.”

The CAMX Awards celebrate outstanding achievements and innovations that have the potential to reshape the composites and advanced materials industry.
